Ice Box Rolls
2 packages yeast ½ cup sugar
1 cup warm water (110 degrees) 1 tablespoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar 1 egg, beaten
2 cups milk, scalded 7 cups flour
½ cup melted shortening Butter
Mix yeast, warm water and 1 T. sugar. Let stand 20 minutes to dissolve. While cooling scalded milk, add shortening, ½ cup sugar and salt. When cool, add egg and yeast mixture. Add flour and mix well. Dough will be sticky. Cover and refrigerate in large bowl overnight. Two hours before serving, knead on floured board and roll out. Spread with soft butter and roll up jelly roll fashion. Cut into 1-inch slices and place in well-greased muffin tins. Allow to rise 2 hours. Bake at 425 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
